QUESTION: I actually am not a homeschooler myself; there are some practical reasons why I simply can’t. So for those of you who DO homeschool, or have thought about it – what are your reasons?

The Chronicle-Telegram
ELYRIA – Sick kids who need to see a doctor long after their own doctor’s office has closed can now go to EMH Regional Medical Center to be seen in the new Kids Care Express Clinic.
Different from a regular trip to the doctor’s office, but not quite like visiting the emergency room, the clinic was created to not only ease the concerns of worried parents but also to alleviate the burden non-critical cases place on the emergency room.
“The emergency room is often not the right place for children to go when they have the sniffles, bumps, bruises or a bad cold,” said Kristen Davis, EMH spokeswoman. “We look at the Kids Care...

Thanks to a chronic sinus infection and a nasty bout of PMS, I’ve been in a foul mood all week. The stacks of papers, excessive conference calls and carpools with my husband aren’t helping matters.
I’m sick of being mad. So, instead of focusing on my empty wallet and idiot co-workers today, I’m getting positive. You can boost your mood too with these five easy tips from Shine (http://shine.yahoo.com/):
1. Clean up. Even a few piles of paperwork can make a busy day feel even more frantic. Sort everything that needs your immediate attention into a file folder and find a home for everything else in drawers, baskets or the trash.
2. Tune in. Put on some...

If you have kids, then you have stains. Spit up, ketchup, crayons, markers and cranberry juice. Throw in an athletic husband and you’ve got a real laundry mess. I cannot begin to tell you the hours I’ve wasted trying to erase grass stains from soccer jerseys and softball dirt from socks.
Well, no more.
Thanks to a few suggestions from Real Simple magazine, stain-fighting in my house has become a breeze. Here are four of the magazine’s best tips for getting the spots out:
1. Bleach pen: Every mom I know owns a Clorox Bleach Pen. Its fine-point applicator lets you target stains and its compact size is perfect for a purse or diaper bag. $3. At most supermarkets, Costco, Target and...

It was the final booty shake for a gaggle of pink-sequined, glitter-eye-shadowed pre-tweens at the St. Louis Galleria last weekend. Club Libby Lu closed it doors after eight years of transforming little girls into life-size Bratz dolls.
Libby Lu charged $25 to $40 per child for its “makeover” birthday parties. I hate to see any employee lose a job, but I’m not going to miss the message of those 98 stores nationwide.
I stumbled into this store a few years ago when my little girl wanted a purple clip-on ponytail for her birthday. I thought it would be ages before she’d be interested in “Hannah Montana” style.
But this month, she was invited to a birthday party at Libby Lu, where she fell...

Our world of late has been filled with too much snow, a little bit of Sam and a lot of snot.
The snow part is easy — anyone watching the weather in Northeast Ohio knows that we’ve been pummeled this year, with more snow days off school this year than in recent years. (It’s getting hard to see the neighbor’s home across the street the pile of snow is growing that high.)
As for Sam, he is a character in an easy-read book that our daughter is learning from in school. And it is remarkable because while she sometimes struggles over what I think are simple words, she nails the names of Sam and his cohorts Mit and Mat everytime.
Every night she comes home from kindergarten with a different little book, and she diligently reads it five times —...

So SuperNanny seems to be too busy to take your calls, and you need some in-home child care. Where to start?
We consulted several experts in the field to offer advice for finding a modern-day Mary Poppins or a suitable alternative.

Lorain County Health Commissioner Ken Pearce said two cases have been confirmed in Lorain County since late December and early January — one being an Oberlin College student, and the other being a young child. Further information on what each...
