Top four stain removers for family laundry

If you have kids, then you have stains. Spit up, ketchup, crayons, markers and cranberry juice. Throw in an athletic husband and you’ve got a real laundry mess. I cannot begin to tell you the hours I’ve wasted trying to erase grass stains from soccer jerseys and softball dirt from socks.

Well, no more.

Thanks to a few suggestions from Real Simple magazine, stain-fighting in my house has become a breeze. Here are four of the magazine’s best tips for getting the spots out:

1. Bleach pen: Every mom I know owns a Clorox Bleach Pen. Its fine-point applicator lets you target stains and its compact size is perfect for a purse or diaper bag. $3. At most supermarkets, Costco, Target and Wal-Mart.

2. Biz bleach: This color-safe powder bleach can be used with detergent or on its own as a presoak. Biz noticeabley reduces stains and improves overall whiteness. $9. At most supermarkets and Wal-Mart.

3. Tide Buzz: The Black & Decker Tide Buzz is equipped with a wand that injects the stain with cleaning fluid. Using ultrasonic technology, this device is designed to zap out even the toughest stains. $39. comfortforless.com.

4. Pocket wipes: OxiClean Wipes get out tough stains and unlike other portable stain removers, don’t leave a ring on light-colored clothing. $7 for a box of 10. At drugstores and supermarkets.
