If you could change anything in the world, what would you fix?
Would you change it so your parents are home with you more, or would you take them on a far-away vacation? Maybe you’d make the sky green and the grass red or you’d make a No-Bedtime Before Nine O’Clock rule. Perhaps you’d give everyone jobs and food, or you’d be sure that there was no war, ever again. …

There are many times when I curse the forwarded e-mail. I get a ton of e-mails at work each day, and I just don’t have time to spend perusing even the silly or thoughtful sent to make someone giggle or think.
That said, I did just that today, and you know what? I’m darn glad I did. …

Most of the time, you try to be good. Sometimes, though, it’s just impossible.
Sometimes, a rock just begs to be thrown. There are days when fences are for climbing and paper is meant to be ripped into eensy-weensy shreds. You know you’re going to be in big trouble when you throw the rock, climb the fence or tear the paper, but let’s face it — mischief is just plain downright fun and too irresistible.

Matt Fink, The Ohio Optometric Association
Summer for children means countless trips to the local pool, beach or river and playing outside for hours.
Parents and guardians take painstaking measures to minimize the risks their children face including teaching them how to swim, to look both ways before crossing the street and to use bug spray and sunscreen.
Don’t forget the importance of protecting children’s eyes from the sun. After all, how often are sunglasses purchased for children? As it happens, kids are rarely found wearing sunglasses, but they need even more protection from the sun than adults. According to Dr. Karla Zadnik, OD, PhD, Associate Dean at The Ohio State University College of Optometry and Medical Director of Realeyes, “children’s...

Summer brings its own brand of fun — but also injuries. Here’s what doctors say families should carry to be prepared:
- Sunscreen. Use brands with an SPF of at least 15 or 30 that block both UVA and UVB rays. Also buy “waterproof” sunscreen, which is different from “water resistant” types.
- Sunburn relief. Aloe vera gel and medicines with acetaminophen or ibuprofen, including Tylenol, Advil or Motrin, can reduce pain.
- Treatment for bug bites … Calamine lotion or hydrocortisone creams, as well as an antihistamine such as Benadryl, help reduce itching and swelling … and stings. Cold...

Point to any photo, and the host will come alive with stories.
Family photos are an integral part of our history and memories. They tell a story that binds us together, knowing that each of us — especially our children — belongs to that group on the wall.
If you...
