Mom gear: The Undercover mama helps nursing moms
By Emilie LeBeau, McClatchy-Tribune
Seventy percent of women begin breastfeeding immediately after giving birth but few continue as their child grows. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention estimates only 20 percent of moms exclusively breastfeed six months after giving birth.
The federal government hopes to raise the percentage of women breastfeeding exclusively after six months to 50 percent. Most state laws support this goal by protecting breastfeeding mothers’ right to nurse in public.
Women still worried about exposure can add additional coverage with nursing gear designed to provide an extra layer of protection.
Undercover mama is a strapless camisole that attaches to a nursing bra. The camisole hooks to the outer flaps of any top-opening nursing bra. When nursing, the camisole will open with the bra.
The extra layer of coverage allows mothers to lift their shirts to nurse and not expose their stomachs, sides or backs.
The camisole has a longer length to stretch past hips. It is available in black, white, brown, and cream. $30 at Undercovermama.com.

It looks like a spin off version of great tanks that are out there. Glamourmom tanks are the best! They have the best fit among all the nursing tanks out there.
No reason to spend $30 on a nursing tank. Buy a pack of “wife beater” style tanks. They’re easy enough to pull down below your breast to nurse, or some people cut a hole for the breast in them. They’re not as nice, but they’re sure a whole lot cheaper.
Of course, you could just nurse the baby – the actual amount of skin showing is minimal – I will just use a blanket to cover my back and blanket or I sit in a chair that will provide protection (like a couch).
Finally, I just want to say that the ORC protects the right of breastfeeding moms to do so in public.
