Posted by Lorain County Moms

By Laura A. Jana MD, FAAP and Jennifer Shu, MD, FAAP, HealthyChildren.org

The following is an excerpt from “Heading Home with Your Newborn: From Birth to Reality” (Second Edition):

Perhaps the most important message we hope to get across is that you don’t need to put undue pressure on yourself when considering what to do with your baby. The types of activities we’re talking about are simple, but to help make sure we’re all on the same page, we’ve put together a quick list to get you started.

nameberry.com

Unisex baby names, meaning those that are used for both boys and girls, are not always that equal. Some of the most popular are heavily weighted toward one gender or the other: Emerson is 61 percent girls and 39 percent boys, for instance, while Rowan is the other way around. Easter fun for you and your family

Posted by Lorain County Moms

By Priscilla J. Dunstan, McClatchy-Tribune

Easter is one of those holidays we all remember fondly. The family traditions, the chocolate — and all without the high expectation of Christmas or birthdays. Easter also allows more time for happy craft activities.

Your family dyes eggs, creates centerpieces and goes on the hunt for Easter eggs in the park or garden. Add to that the appearance of daffodils, tulips and everything turning green, longer evenings with light, and the end of winter, and we have a happy time all around. Making Easter special is easy, especially if you keep in mind your child’s dominant sense, and you and your family will have many life-long memories to recreate each year.

A soft plush toy will be a favorite for your tactile child...

Preparing for baby No. 2

Posted by Lorain County Moms

By Elena Donovan Mauer, TheBump.com

We hate to break it to you, but your second pregnancy might not be all “been there done that.” The fact is, you may have to deal with some pregnancy symptoms you didn’t get the first time around. And of course, you’ll have to get baby No. 1 used to the idea of a new sibling and make room at home for a fourth family member. Here’s how to get your body, social life, home and family ready.

Expect symptoms sooner — and stronger

Don’t assume that if you didn’t experience certain symptoms the first time, you’ll be as lucky this time. Some moms swear those early-pregnancy symptoms — fatigue, morning sickness — are stronger the second time around. Some tricks...
