Quenby Hall Blue Stilton Cheese distributed by Schratter Foods Inc. of Fairfield, N.J., and sold nationwide in retail stores is being recalled.
- WHY: The cheese may be contaminated with Listeria, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. It may cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
- INCIDENTS: None reported. The potential contamination of Listeria was discovered after a routine testing of a bulk of cheese by the company.
