Twin Spin: Twin cribs to twin toddler beds

Derek’s crib broke.

There was no amount of screws, nails or super glue that
could have held it together. It had to go.

That crib had a good life in our house. It held Ethan when
we brought him home from the hospital when we lived in North Ridgeville; and it
held the twins for the first few months of their lives.

However, Derek’s endless jumping up and down, as if it were
a trampoline, killed it.

It was time.

It was time to take down the cribs and bring up the toddler
beds.

Really, there isn’t much of a difference in size.

The only difference is … FREEDOM!

In a crib, there was no way they were escaping the compound
(aka bedroom), unless they were climbing out, but even my dare-devil of a son
wasn’t that brave.

With the toddler beds, they tend to get in and get out; get
in and get out; get in and, well, you get the picture.

The first time they saw their beds where their cribs used to
be, their faces glowed with happiness.

I was frowning, and stressing.

I was dreading the transition from crib to toddler bed since;
well since I found out I was carrying twins back in 2007.

You see, Ethan transition didn’t go very well … at all.

He cried every time we put him to bed. We put him back. He walked
out. We walked him back in. He screamed. We screamed. He cried. I cried.

It took us at least an hour to put him to bed every single
night.

So, that first night we put the twins to bed in their cribs,
I cringed. I stressed. I freaked out.

But then, something happened.

They went to sleep!

They didn’t cry. They didn’t walk out. They didn’t scream. I
didn’t scream.

Nothing happened, except … sleep!

Granted, their days of napping for me are llllloooonnnnggg
over, and I wasn’t looking forward to that phase ending so soon.

But, after seeing their transition compared to that of Ethan’s
from crib to bed, it wasn’t as bad as I had envisioned.

Now … the next step … pre-school in two weeks! The question
is … who will transition easier? The twins, or mom?
