Taking advice from 1980s pop singer

Taking advice from 1980s pop singer, Tiffany, well kinda …

In the 1980s, pop singing sensation Tiffany brought the song
“I Think We’re Alone Now” to teen girls in malls all across America.

I grew up listening to her songs, played over and over on
the radio. And, when I couldn’t find it on the radio, of course it was taped
from the radio on my “boom box.”

The other night, the song popped into my head, but for a
different reason.

The song is about two young lovers who are “alone now.”

Yet I have given it new meaning from a mother of twins who
are finally heading to pre-school for 2.5 hours, two days a week:

“Children behave, that’s what I say when you’re together

And watch how you play nicely with each other, and so …

Mommy’s running just as fast as she can,

Watching her kids holding on to each other’s hands

Trying to get into my car …

And then you put your arms around me,

And you pull me down to the ground,

And then you say …

Mommy, I love you, bye-bye!” (This was Katie this morning as
she left her classroom in search of me. I then bent down, and gave her a kiss
and off she went. Derek just wandered away as if he was ready to leave me.)

So, yes, after being home with children for more than eight
years, you can say that I am more than a little excited for my first glimpse of
freedom.

And, as Tiffany sang to us … “I think we’re alone now!” and
mommy is thrilled that the only sound in the house will be her beating heart!
