A trip down the aisle

Last Saturday, I saw what my life may be like in 20-plus years.

My niece, Emily, got married

Wait, did I just say “my niece got married?”

Yes. But, wasn’t it just yesterday that she was the flower girl in MY wedding?

Technically, no, since I have been married for 11 years, but my, how time flies when you are having fun, or in my case, establishing a career and having children.

Anyways … back to the wedding.

My daughter, Katie, served as one of Emily’s two flower girls.

I know everyone who has children thinks that their children are the most beautiful in the world, but last Saturday, Katie really was the most beautiful girl. Really, I am serious.

Despite the fact that she pitched a fit when I attempted to do her hair (she ended up wearing it down and curly) and despite the fact that she despised her dress (this was before Grandma fixed it for her), she played her part well that day.

She cooperated.

She smiled for photographs.

She actually allowed herself to BE photographed without a meltdown (well, maybe there was one meltdown, but that was because she didn’t want to stand by the husband-to-be in a photo — Sorry Tony!).

AND, the best part — she actually walked down the aisle by herself without screaming, throwing her flowers or making faces. (I didn’t get to see this because I was making sure she didn’t run away outside the church, but my husband and everyone else said she did a GREAT job, so I will just have to take their word for it, and see it on video.)

For that one day, she was the PERFECT child.

Now, let’s hope that the day she gets married and time leading up to the ceremony, I can have my “perfect daughter” and not end up with a BRIDEZILLA instead!
