Top 10 reasons men don’t want to be ‘room dads’

If you’ve ever been in an elementary school, you may have noticed that there are always volunteer moms running around the place.

The more expensive the neighborhood, the more likely that moms can afford to help out. And, bless them, our schools couldn’t run without them.

There are also the generalissimo moms who run things with such efficiency that you’re a little scared of them. Today, Hoover School. Tomorrow, the World.

My friend Nancy, who helps around her school but who is not a little Mussolini, posed me this question: Why aren’t there more room dads? In this day and age, why does that job category remain almost exclusively female?

After my exhaustive scientific survey, during which I drank two diet Cokes and had a snack, here’s my official list of the top 10 reasons why men don’t want to be room dads:

10. No ESPN, chips or Fritos

9. No brutal contact sports, except in kindergarten

8. Most of the hot women there are already married

7. They would have to learn where their kid’s classroom is located

6. The teacher won’t let them use the TV remote control

5. No power tools in the classroom

4. Other room moms give them funny looks

3. Very few males want to put “Room mom” on their resumes

2. They don’t know how to make cupcakes

And the No.1 reason that dads don’t want to be room moms?

No beer.
