Facing the realities of my little girl’s dream

Posted by Brooke Grasso

Growing up, my little girl’s dream was being a wife and mother.

My childhood was filled with playing “house” or my Barbie dolls carrying their babies around the house while Ken was at work. As a little girl you play this way not really knowing what it truly entails.

My dreams came true on both July 27, 2007, and November 13, 2008 — on those days I became a wife and mother, respectively.

The wife job is super easy. I’m married to my best friend and it’s an effortless relationship. Being a mother is also a dream come true, but I don’t quite think I was playing the game of “house” correctly as a child.

I forgot to add the bottles that needed to be washed, loads upon loads of laundry done and the fact that I would...

Big baby steps: We’ve got a walker!

Posted by Brooke Grasso

What an amazing weekend! Dominic has been flying through his milestones this past month and this weekend was no exception. Friday night we stood Dominic up and he could stand steadily for over 30 seconds, we waved a toy in front of him and he took one step! We weren’t sure if it was a fluke or a glimpse into the near future.

On Saturday evening before bedtime, we tried again. This time our brave little boy took five steps! We were SOO excited! Little did we know that on Sunday, our little overachiever had more surprises up his teeny, tiny sleeves!

As soon as his feet hit the floor this morning he was straight up walking! He wobbled across the room and over to his toys. Throughout the day his movement became less wobbly and more fluid. I just can’t believe how...

Baby gear must-haves and mistakes

Posted by Brooke Grasso

This week’s installment of Kelly’s Korner “Show Us Your Life” is titled “Show Us Your Baby Gear-what you’d recommend to have or not have.” As first time parents registering we thought we had to have everything on the market. As early as the first 2 months we realized our mistake. Lou would hold up an item and ask if I’ve used it yet. “Uh, no … but I will.” This conversation happened a lot as there are many items and outfits Dominic never used or wore. But here are a few of our must-haves and wish-we-hadn’ts.

Life with a crawler

Posted by Brooke Grasso

For months Lou and I waited and wished for Dominic to reach the momentous crawling milestone. Well, we got our wish, and the phrase “be careful what you wish for” has never rang more true! I guess I never realized how much my day would change with a crawling baby.

Here are some of my observations:

  • I have to literally crawl around the house each day and check for little dangers that could be around. I’ve found those little plastic tags that attach price tags to clothes, plastic bag pieces that were clear and very hard to see, a button, string … not sure how the Dyson isn’t picking this up, which leads me to my next observation.
  • Vacuuming. Dominic has now made me a serial vacuumer! Which is a good thing!
  • I miss the days...

Nine months old!

Posted by Brooke Grasso

I can hardly believe I’m typing these words … Dominic is officially NINE months old! As in three months away from being ONE YEAR OLD.

Time is truly flying by. Dominic is up to all sorts of shenanigans these days:

  • He says “Mama,” “Dada,” “Baba” and kinda sings. It’s super cute-he also talks up a storm while in a shopping cart at the store.
  • He’s scootin’ along (as Louie blogged yesterday) and starting to kinda crawl. He’s very fast and interested in everything!
  • He claps his hands a lot and raises them up to be “Sooooo Big!”
  • He can pull himself up onto things. Which is usually to get the remote or a cell phone (two things I refuse to let him play...

Expanding our vocabulary with baby talk

Posted by Brooke Grasso

Before Lou and I had Dominic we vowed that we’d never, EVER speak “baby talk” to our baby. We said we’d always speak to him or her using real words and the correct words for most words.

I’m pretty sure Dominic was about 5 minutes old when he heard his first “cutsey wutsey.”

Before we left the hospital to head for home he had heard a variety of new words such as poopie, wittle baby, come to think of it … any word with a “w” sound in front of it … wittle, waby, wove, etc. It didn’t take us long to completely forget our vow.
