Editor’s note: A slow administrator here at LorainCountyMoms forgot to post this on Shaun’s behalf on Monday. But it’s fun anyway, so …. better late than never.
As I prepare for tonight’s big battle between Ohio State and Texas, my thoughts drift to one of the greatest sports moments I’ve had with my daughter. Earlier this season, on Sept. 6, I took my daughter Stephanie to the Horseshoe for the first time to see a Ohio State football game. The Buckeyes defeated Ohio University, 26-14, but that wasn’t the big win for me on that day.
I’ve taken my daughter to a ton of professional sports...

The angst was palpable on Facebook.
“My mom tried to add me on Facebook today,” read one online posting, “and I had to deny my own flesh and blood. You’d have done the same.”
Once upon a time, Facebook was a gathering place for college kids. No one had access to the social networking site started by Harvard students in 2004 without a university e-mail address.
But two years ago, Facebook opened its virtual doors to everyone and now, OMG. Parents are everywhere. Adults older than 35 accounted for 3.6 million — 9 percent — of the Facebook demographic last year and the numbers just keep growing.

I’ve decided in this era of modern media to never buy another CD or DVD again. What’s the need? I’ve realized that with On Demand, Netflix and Blockbuster Online there is just no time to watch my movie collection over and over again.
This will surely be good news to my wife Mary, who calls me a pack rat and hates my collections — comics, sports cards, DVDs, CDs and plenty more — than are piled around the house collecting dust.
I was at Blockbuster Tuesday at 11 a.m. to rent a copy of “Tinkerbell” for my daughter Stephanie. She had been watching the commercials — played about every 6 minutes on...

My wife and daughter just walked out the front door and are on their way to see the noon showing of “High School Musical 3.” It will be the second time the pair have attended a movie together — the other being the Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana 3-D concert earlier this year — and I’m very happy that my wife has picked a few things to earn some valuable mother-daughter bonding time with.
Mary, my wife, is a big proponent of “family time” and rarely wants to do anything in individual pairings. It took me getting her a Christmas present of 12 gift cards for “date nights” a couple years ago to get a night out for dinner alone with her.

The Bennett family has been members of Cleveland’s Metroparks Zoo since 2002 — joining just five months after the birth of our daughter Stephanie, which may be why she’s only 6 years old and has flipped between being a veterinarian and a pet-store owner several times as her career of choice.
So we hit the zoo or the rainforest at least two or three times a month, and we’ve always attended Boo at the Zoo — the annual Halloween event...

I wore one of my favorite T-shirts to the Chronicle office yesterday.
It’s one of those photo shirts that my wife made for me for Father’s Day several years ago. It’s a picture of my daughter Stephanie and son Jacob — at ages 3 and 1, respectively — dressed as Minnie and Mickey Mouse and sitting in a pile of leaves in our front yard with the caption “Daddy Makes Us Mickey Money” underneath.
The picture is cute enough, but the caption usually raises a few eyebrows. So let me explain.
Our family is Disney nuts. We all have a complete Disney-based wardrobe, my wife Mary owns a framed share of stock from the company and we travel to Orlando...

This weekend our family initiated a pre-emptive strike on the festive holiday Halloween by taking in Hallo-Weekends at Cedar Point. We are season ticket holders so the choice to enjoy Sunday’s unseasonably warm weather wasn’t much of a choice at all.
The kids got to take in their normal thrills — Ocean Motion, Calypso, Iron Dragon for my daughter Stephanie and the assortment of rides at Camp Snoopy (renamed Camp Spooky for the special...

I’m so envious of parents whose children takes buses to school.
My two kids go to two different schools, and I have to spend a good portion of my day driving all over the north side of Elyria because of it. My daughter Stephanie attends Elyria Community School, and we don’t have a bus route available for her. My son Jacob goes to Spring Valley, and the attempt at riding the bus ended with disastrous results.
I have to drop Stephanie off for first grade at 8:15 a.m., then take Jacob to Prep School (pre-school) at 9 a.m. Jacob, who goes Tuesday through Friday, has to be picked up at 11:30 a.m. and Stephanie has to be picked up at 3:30 p.m. I have to be at work shortly...
